At Highton General Practice, we are proud to offer Shared Antenatal Care for expectant mothers, providing a collaborative approach to your pregnancy journey. This model allows you to receive care from both our experienced GPs and specialists at the hospital, ensuring that you receive comprehensive and continuous support throughout your pregnancy.

What is Shared Antenatal Care?
Shared antenatal care is a partnership between your GP and your hospital or maternity care team. Your GP will be actively involved in your care, offering you regular check-ups and screenings, while also coordinating with specialists and midwives to ensure the best possible outcome for both you and your baby.

Benefits of Shared Antenatal Care:

  • Convenience: Regular check-ups with your trusted GP close to home, reducing the need for frequent visits to the hospital.

  • Continuity of Care: Your GP will be closely involved in your pregnancy journey, ensuring you receive personalized care and advice tailored to your needs.

  • Collaborative Approach: Your GP will work alongside hospital specialists to provide comprehensive care, addressing all aspects of your pregnancy, including any potential risks or complications.

  • Holistic Support: Our GPs offer not only medical care but also emotional support, ensuring you feel confident and comfortable throughout your pregnancy.

What to Expect:

  • Initial Consultation: Your first appointment will involve a thorough check-up, including a review of your medical history, and a discussion of your lifestyle, birth preferences, and any concerns you may have.

  • Ongoing Monitoring: Throughout your pregnancy, you will have regular visits with your GP for blood pressure monitoring, weight management, blood tests, and other essential screenings.

  • Coordinated Care: Your GP will work closely with your hospital team, ensuring your pregnancy is progressing smoothly and that any issues are promptly addressed.

  • Hospital Visits: You will still attend your scheduled appointments with the hospital for ultrasounds, specialist consultations, and labor preparation classes.
